Walking tour in Santiago de Chile: A different way to discover the city.

La Moneda goberment palace

If you want to discover the capital of Chile in a fun, dynamic and cultural way, I recommend you to do a walking tour with ChileVive Tours. It is an excellent option to discover the most emblematic places of Santiago, from the La Moneda Palace to the San Cristóbal Hill, passing by the Plaza de Armas, the Santa Lucía Hill, the bohemian neighborhoods of Lastarria and Bellavista, and much more.

The tour starts at the La Moneda Palace, the seat of the Chilean government and one of the most important buildings in the country. There you can see the changing of the guard, a spectacle full of color and tradition that takes place every two days. Then, you will walk through the historic center of Santiago, where you can admire the former National Congress, the main square (Plaza de Armas) and the Metropolitan Cathedral, the National Historical Museum and other colonial buildings.

You will continue to the Central Market, a place full of life and flavor where you can find all kinds of fresh products, especially fish and seafood. There you can appreciate the gastronomic diversity of Chile and its indigenous, Spanish and European influences.

The next destination is the Forest Park, a beautiful green space that borders the Mapocho River and houses the National Museum of Fine Arts, one of the oldest in Latin America. There you can admire works of Chilean and international art, from the 19th century to the present.

Then, you will climb up to the Santa Lucía Hill, a natural oasis in the middle of the city that offers spectacular panoramic views. There you can see the Hidalgo Castle, the Neptune Fountain, the Manuel Montt Viewpoint and other attractions that will surprise you. You can also taste a typical drink called "Mote con Huesillos", which is made with peach juice, dried peaches (huesillos), sugar and wheat mote. It is a refreshing and delicious drink that you can enjoy with a spoon after drinking the juice.

The tour continues through the Lastarria neighborhood, one of the most cultural and bohemian in Santiago. There you can find cafes, restaurants, bookstores, art galleries and design shops. It is an ideal place to stroll and enjoy the creative and cosmopolitan atmosphere.

Then, you will pass by the Gabriela Mistral Cultural Center (GAM), a space dedicated to the dissemination of performing and visual arts. There you can see exhibitions, shows and free activities that will bring you closer to contemporary Chilean culture.

The next stop is the Mulato Gil de Castro Square (MAVI), where the Museum of Visual Arts is located.

Then you will arrive at Plaza Italia, one of the nerve centers of Santiago. There are several historical and cultural monuments there, such as

the German Fountain, the Caupolicán Theater and the Telefónica Tower. It is also a place where sports, social and political events are celebrated.

The tour ends in Bellavista neighborhood, one of the most lively and colorful in Santiago. There you can see La Chascona house-museum, where poet Pablo Neruda lived; Patio Bellavista, a shopping center with restaurants, bars and shops; and Inti Castro's mural "A day in life".

If you choose the 6-hour tour option, you will also enjoy a lunch at a restaurant that serves typical Chilean food. You can choose between Galindo restaurant in Bellavista or one of the restaurants in Central Market. You will taste dishes such as pastel de choclo (corn pie), cazuela (meat stew), porotos granados (bean stew) or empanadas de pino (meat pies).

The San Cristóbal Hill is the perfect place to end the tour with an incredible panoramic view. You can go up by funicular,

cable car or on foot, and enjoy nature, fresh air and the Sanctuary of Immaculate Conception. There you can take pictures, relax and say goodbye to Santiago.

This walking tour in Santiago de Chile is an experience that you cannot miss if you want to discover the city in a different and fun way. You will learn about its history, culture, gastronomy and people, and feel like a local.
